Ruth graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a focus on structures in 2008. She became a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Georgia in 2013. She is the Chief Engineer Bridges and Structures for Norfolk Southern Railway (NS), where she has been employed since 2008. Throughout her career at NS, her many positions have focused on design, engineering, and project, construction, and field personnel management of railroad structures. While at NS, she has been an active member of NS’ employee resource groups Young NS, NS Volunteers, and Women in Norfolk Southern (WiNS) which she chaired as well. Ruth has been an active member of AREMA Committee 15 – Steel Structures for 13 years. She has served as chair of Subcommittee 5 – Ratings for six years and is currently vice-Chair of Committee 15. She has been a mentor for many years while becoming first female to serve in multiple positions at NS and her vice-chair position with AREMA Committee 15. In her free time, she enjoys swimming, baking, hiking with her dog and biking the Silver Comet Trail.
Glenn T. Hay, PE
Design Nine, Inc.
Glenn Hay is President of Design Nine, Inc., where he has worked since 1990. Glenn joined Design Nine after ten and one half (10.5) years with the Missouri Pacific/Union Pacific Railroads, where he worked in the Construction Group as a Manager of Special Projects and Resident Engineer. He is a graduate of Michigan Technological University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He makes his home in the St. Louis, Missouri area. He has been associated with Committee 18 Light Density and Short Line Railways since 1990 where he has been Secretary, Vice Chairman and Chairman. Glenn has been fortunate enough to have been elected to the AREMA Board as a Director then Vice President of the Engineering Services Functional Group.
Daniel J. Rappoport
Daniel Rappoport is a Track Designer at Gannett Fleming’s Chicago office, and assists with teaching a railroad engineering class at his alma mater, the Illinois Institute of Technology, after leading the push for the university to create the course when he was a student. Daniel founded the IIT AREMA student chapter in 2017, and serves as an advisor to other chapters around the country as the AREMA Committee 24 Student Chapter Mentor.
